Who's the artist?
Connecting the dots of madness
I went to the Yayoi Kusama Retrospective at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. And had lots of fun with two photographers and many accessories.
I switched into the crazy dots mood, and explored how it felt. I connected Yayoi Kusuma madness with mine. And it was an amazing experience.
Other visitors thought I was part of the exhibit and photographed me a lot too.
The museum guards were a little tensed by my performance. But since I was following the museum rules (not touching the art), they had nothing to say to me. The only rule that I broke constantly was not wearing a covid face-mask. Some of the guards yelled at me to put my mask on. Which was absolutely funny, I felt that they were looking for ways to make me "behave" like a normal visitor, but didn't find anything to tell me except for the face mask.
The question that arises in this project is: "who's the artist". It has a double meaning.
First, while looking at the pictures, there are in fact 3 artists involved: Yayoi Kusuma, the photograph, and me. So who's the artist?
The second meaning of this question is an invitation to try to enter Kusuma's mind. When you go visiting an exhibition: are you just a spectator, looking at the art and feeling what it does to you. Or are you actively taking part in the exhibition. Becoming the art, and the artist. I don't like being a spectator. I prefer experiencing it in my body, mind and soul...
